Oct. 2 — JP Motorsports hosted the inaugural Monster Muscle Car Weekend at Gateway Motorsports Park over the weekend. The event, which featured muscle car drag racing and a car show,  marked the final race of the 2016 season for the Victory Nostalgia Super Stocks group. Tom Hoffman of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, won the final round of eliminations and the 2016 championship by defeating Shaun Johnston of Millstadt, Illinois, 10.807 sec./121.78 mph to 10.785 sec./124.53 mph.

Weather interfered with eliminations on Sunday. The races were delayed some 90 minutes for track drying following a brief — but soaking — shower. All classes were completed except for Super Quick/Super Pro (down to semi-finals) and Pro (down to the final). A second storm soaked the track and the races were called on Sunday evening. Super Quick/Super Pro semi-finalists: Steve Pearson (St. Charles, Missouri), Jeremy McKague (Chamois, Illinois) and Mike Cano (Quincy, Illinois). The Pro finale would have seen Bob Brooks (Foristell, Missouri) and Jason Mallinekrodt (Troy, Missouri) square off for the title.

Mike Muenz of St. Louis won the Scat Pack Shootout final over Tim Barth of Machesney, Illinois.

Catie Schmidt of St. Charles, Illinois, defeated James Goggin of Rosebud, Missouri for the Hellcat Shootout title.

Ron Stayer Jr. won the Mopars vs. the World title over Paul Peterson of Suffield, Ohio.

Cory Caslin of Festus, Missouri won the Truck class over Matt Jones.

Stick class honors went to Richard Sawyer of Plainview, Illinois. Sawyer defeated Dan York of St. Louis.

Michael McCarter of Mansfield, Illinois defeated Cory Caslin of Festus, Missouri for Arrington New Hemi honors.

SS/AH Hemi Shootout honors went to Joe Teuton of Schriever, Louisiana over Tom Gordon of Houma, Louisiana.

Bob Haberarger won the Trophy class over Chris Hauptman.
