Admission is only $20 per car load for Saturday’s All-American Hot Rod Showdown

Gateway Motorsports Park will host the All-American Hot Rod Showdown for the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series in NHRA’s Division 3 this weekend.

Twenty-two-year-old Mia Tedesco (a.k.a. “Miss Mia”) will compete in Top Alcohol Dragster and Super Gas competition at GMP. Tedesco began racing in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, area when she was just eight years old. Her first win came at her home track, Pittsburgh Raceway Park and she quickly earned three PRP NHRA Jr. Dragster track championships before graduating to bracket racing.

Since moving up to the fastest class in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series — Top Alcohol Dragster — Tedesco has been on a roll. She scored four TAD wins in 2015 (Charlotte, Indianapolis, Chicago and Joliet) and kicked off the 2016 season win a victory in Gainesville, Florida, and scored again in Hebron, Ohio. She also won the Super Gas final at Joliet in June.

Going into this weekend’s event at GMP, Tedesco is just one point behind Top Alcohol Dragster leader Brandon Booher and her CARS Protection Plus/VP Racing Fuels Super Gas Chevrolet is second in the Division 3 standings. But points aren’t anywhere on her mind.

“It’s still early to even start worrying about that,” Tedesco said. “We’re not really focused on points, divisionally or nationally. We’re just trying to go win races and go rounds and have some fun.”

Conditions could be steamy in the St. Louis area this weekend, but Tedesco and her family team are ready for it.

“It’s probably going to be hot, and we’re probably going to have a lot of night racing since it’s only a Friday-Saturday race,” Tedesco said. “I think it’ll be good. The track should be fine. It was good last year.”

Sportsman racing can sometimes continue well into the nighttime and even in the early morning, but Tedesco has raced enough to handle anything.

“We know we’re probably going to be racing at night, which doesn’t really bother me at all. I’m used to racing at night with bracket races. They tend to get done at night, sometimes as late as 5 in the morning, so we’ll be ready for anything.”

Spectator admission is only $20 per car load on Saturday for the big show featuring Jet Cars, fireworks, Top Alcohol Dragsters, Top Alcohol Funny Cars and NHRA sportsman classes (including Comp, Top Sportsman, Super Stock and Super Gas).
