MEGABUCKS RETURNS – FIRST OF TWO POPULAR BRACKET EVENTS GIVES RACERS THREE SHOTS TO WIN $5,000 ON APRIL 19-21
MADISON, ILLINOIS – Officials from Gateway Motorsports Park confirmed today that the popular Megabucks Bracket Specials will return with the first of two special events scheduled for April 19-21, 2013. The event provides Super Pro racers with three shots at a $5,000 payout and Non-Electronic racers three opportunities to win a $1,200 payday.
“One of the major requests by racers throughout the region has been a return of the popular Megabucks events,” said Chris Blair, Gateway Motorsports Park Senior Vice President of Business Development and Promotion. ”The number of opportunities for racers to compete in high dollar bracket races has decreased in recent years but the enthusiasm level remains. The Spring Megabucks race is a great way to test the promotional waters and lay the groundwork for an even larger Megabucks event in October.”
The Megabucks format doesn’t follow the traditional program for most high dollar bracket races but is extremely popular with racers familiar with the St. Louis track. Super Pro racers can purchase up to four tech cards of different colors and run against the other colored tech cards until there is only one car remaining for that group. The four group winners square off in the overall event semi-finals.
“We are also providing the opportunity for racers in Sportsman and Pro to run their own ‘no box’ eliminator each day that will follow the traditional bracket racing formats,” continued Blair. ”No box drivers will have the opportunity to race for a possible $1,200 payday with buybacks in either the first or second round of eliminations. It’s a totally separate race and the participation level will help determine the demand for “No Box” special events at Gateway Motorsports Park.
All race entries and tech card sales will take place beginning on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 2 p.m. Early tech inspection will take place from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. Racing begins on Friday, April 19 with a time trial run followed by an optional Run-for-the-Money event. NHRA Division 3 E.T. rules will be followed for all vehicles in competition.
