The cars and stars of the Indianapolis 500 will make their third annual trek to the St. Louis-Metro East region on August 24.

The inaugural Bommarito Automotive Group 500 for the INDYCAR Series was a tremendous success in 2017. The 2018 edition featured more entries from new race teams — competing in exciting, redesigned cars — and the addition of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West. It has become a challenge to top the previous year’s event, a challenge which Gateway Motorsports Park owner and CEO Curtis Francois and Executive Vice President and General Manager Chris Blair readily accepted.

This year, the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East-West combo race will be held on Saturday, the same day as the INDYCAR event. But to call the racing on August 23-24 weekend a doubleheader would be selling it a little bit short. Not only will the stars of INDYCAR and NASCAR compete on Saturday, they will be joined by Indy Pro 2000, Indy Lights and Vintage Indy competition.

“Our slogan for 2019 is ‘Action is the attraction’ and this doubleheader will be the second of our 2019 season,” Blair said. “The combination of the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East-West combo race – two races on the same track on the same day – delivers on our promise. We are offering more racing than ever before on our INDYCAR Weekend.”

The INDYCAR race truly is an international event. In addition to America’s best drivers, the third annual Bommarito Automotive Group 500 also will draw competitors from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Japan, New Zealand, Spain, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

The weeklong St. Louis Speed Festival once again will build the excitement leading up to race day. The third annual Speed Festival will be comprised of unique daily attractions – including a cycling event and an INDYCAR FanFest — held at various locations in and around St. Louis.

“The people of the St. Louis-Metro East region do a tremendous job of hosting first-class national events,” Francois explained. “With the Speed Festival, we want to capture the magic of the playoff atmosphere we see with the Blues and Cardinals and golf tournaments.”
